Alumni, mark your calendars now for Homecoming Weekend, November 1-3, 2013

Being almost a decade out, one would believe that the gravitational pull that Millsaps has on me would begin to recede. However, the truth is quite the opposite.

Sal & Mookie's New York Pizza and Ice Cream Joint is proud to announce that Dan Blumenthal and Jeff Good have been selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as the 2013 Mississippi State Small Business Persons of the Year.

Millsaps alumni have long provided leadership at every level to ensure that the College is a beacon of excellence for generations to come, and will continue to do so. We are now calling on alumni to join the "Building Towards Excellence" initiative, a campaign to grow support of the College over the next four years.

During recent Founders Day activities, the Robert M. Hearin Support Foundation was inducted into the Millsaps Founders Society which recognizes individuals and organizations who have given $1 million or more to the College, forever linking their names with those of Founders, Millsaps, Galloway, and Murrah who are commemorated on the Millsaps Tower.

Alums of the Millsaps Singers are invited to participate in the Singers presentation of Samuel Jones’ “The Trumpet of the Swan,” which will be performed with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra conducted by maestro Crafton Beck.

All new or increased gifts to the Millsaps Annual Fund at the Presidents Society level ($1,000 and up) will be matched when they are part of a two-year commitment by an anonymous donor.

Luther Ott, an Episcopal priest and lawyer known for his dedication to improving the community where he lives, is the 2012 Millsaps College Alumnus of the Year.

In August, Kenneth Townsend (B.A. 2004) became special assistant to Millsaps President Dr. Robert Pearigen, and assistant professor of political science.

Good deeds come in many forms. For Dr. John Sawyer, B.A. 2005, a good deed performed by Dr. Sarah Richie, B.S. 1999, has changed the course of his career.

I recently interviewed retired Maj. Gen. Erik Hearon, and I wanted to learn what 40 years of service in the military had taught him about leadership and developing great habits.

Millsaps College has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the Robert N. Hearin Foundation to assist in the development of a business incubator in Jackson's Midtown neighborhood.

Two Millsaps College voice majors are a step closer to achieving their dreams of careers in professional opera.

The Millsaps College Arts and Lecture Series has been awarded a $2,700 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission. The grant is a portion of the $1.5 million in grants the commission will award in 2012-2013 and will be used by the Arts and Lecture Series to present a variety of speakers, writers and musicians.
